Joe Perkins's video: Tubesteader Eggnog: Ridiculous Cranked 50s Tweed Tones

@Tubesteader Eggnog: Ridiculous Cranked '50s Tweed Tones!
Find out all about this pedal here: https://tubesteader.com/products/eggnog Olly at Tubesteader has released a few high-voltage tube pedals now - and all of them are amazing. He started with the Dumble-inspired Beekeeper and Lightkeeper pedals; and then followed those with (my personal favourite of the three!) the Sunkeeper, giving his take on the Orange Rockerverb 'thing'. But now, he's turned his attention to the old American Tweed amps of the 1950s... Enter the Eggnog: essentially, a cranked low-powered Tweed combo in a box. As per usual, it utilises a 12AX7 tube running at 'proper' high voltage to create the gain. But in addition, there's a MOSFET transistor that is always-on pushing the tube as a clean boost...giving the circuit that distinctive spongy low end that Tweeds are famous for. The boost switch doesn't switch the transistor in and out; but it gains the transistor up, and gives the option for more level from it....so think of this pedal as having an always-on clean boost; but you can switch that over to a dirty boost with a level control. Cool, eh? It also has a Normal & Bright switch on the top, emulating the dual inputs of those old amps. Normal is thumper; Bright is thinner. Oh, and there's plenty of level on tap if you wanted to use this directly into a power amp to give yourself a Tweed front end. Whoah, that's a lot of functionality in a deceivingly small little yellow box...! Today, I'll be putting it through its paces - both with a 'normal' standalone pedal demo, but also through comparing it to my Dr Z Z-Master - a 'real' Tweed circuit. Can the Eggnog get us ballpark to the real deal running through an amplifier that's very, very different? What do you think? A wonderful Tweed-in-a-Box? Or not for you? Comment below! Main demo amp is a Vajra JTM45 clone running into a Zilla Studio Pro 2x12 cabinet loaded with Celestion Gold & Fane A30 AlNiCo speakers. Recorded with Aston Spirit Condenser, '70s Sennheiser MD441 and sE RNR1 ribbon mics, with a Schoeps CMC6 room mic. Amp comparison paired the Vajra with a Dr Z Z-Master - both were recorded with Shure SM57s. 0:00 EGGNOG BLUES 2:57 Intro 5:12 Part 1: Main Pedal Demo 12:48 Do We Like It? 13:42 Part 2: Compared To A 'Real' Tweed Circuit 18:49 Outro www.facebook.com/joeperkinsmusic jp@joeperkins.co.uk Vector images by freepik.com
