John Edwards's video: surprising difference between cheap bathroom door lock and Kwikset Bed and Bath Signature Series

@surprising difference between cheap bathroom door lock and Kwikset Bed and Bath Signature Series
I nearly got locked in the bathroom here in Manchester, MO within the last week without access to my phone and no one at home. I was barely able to eventually retract the latch and escape. The problem had been building in the sense that more and more so, you could turn the door knob itself but the latch would not follow as it did before and as it suppose to do. My very first action was to go to an actual hardware store and talk to someone with a bit of knowledge and ended up purchasing a Kwikset Signature Series Bed and Bath locking door knob to replace the one at home. It was only when I got the two apart did I realize how much difference there actually was. This is the first video of this type really that I have done because I am not big DIY person, and so I apologize for some of awkward filming, but I think if you have patience and interest at all in this subject that you will be somewhat surprised like I was at how much difference there can be between the cheapest door knob on the market and just one step up so to speak. Anyway, this Kwikset was only $10 more than the bottom of the line, and for that $10 this video shows that you get a lot, lot more quality. This issue is sort of sensitive to me know because when we bought this house in 2015 and moved from Kansas City, the previous homeowners had done a lot of what looked like nice rehabbing and improvements to the place. Turns out after 8 years that every mechanical device, plumbing fixtures, HVAC system, etc. that they got and has subsequently had issues was the absolute bottom of the line--one example, I didn't realize you could spend under $30 for a kitchen sink faucet with a sprayer. You can and it looks nice for a while but when it failed the plumber showed us the guts were essentially the cheapest of the cheap and garbage. You don't always need the most expensive, but the absolute cheap of the cheap does not seem to work so well either, unless you're doing it for show and planning to leave the problems in the future to someone else. I for one would simply not operate that way. Hope you find the video at least somewhat informative and interesting. Again, I apologize for the amateurish video work because I'm just not used to making videos like this. The date of filming is 4/23/23, and again we're in Manchester, St. Louis County, MO. One further thing I learned during this process--the old, cheap lock is actually a Kwikset which is actually a good brand. The problem is the new quality all metal one you see is a Signature Series whereas the old, cheap piece of crap you see that I took off that had cracked plastic was their bottom of the line series. So, just wanted to make clear that Kwikset makes good products but apparently or maybe still does offer a bottom of the line cheaper model for those who don't want to spend much.
