The state of Georgia executed Kenneth Fults after a racist juror said he’d vote for the death penalty during his trial. Fults, a Black man, spent 19 years on death row for the 1996 shooting and killing of Cathy Bounds during a burglary. Eight years after the trial, a juror signed a sworn statement in 2004 that said, “I don’t know if he ever killed anybody, but that nigger got just what should have happened. Once he pled guilty, I knew I would vote for the death penalty because that’s what the nigger deserved.”
