Sterett Hall Auditorium was built during the 1940s for the sailors stationed at the one-time 3rd largest Naval base in the country. The base was on the list of base closures. The City of North Charleston assumed all building and structures were turned over to the city. Mayor Kieth Summey ordered the demolition of Sterett Hall after the 2015 election, leaving the community without many options for residents in the area. Summey has again demonstrated his disdain for black residents.
