The movie ‘Birth of a Nation’, actor/director, Nate Parker, has come under fire for something that happened while he attended college. Nate Parker and Jean Celestin, both 19 at the time of the alleged rape, were tried together in a swift October 2001 trial. Parker was acquitted of all charges. The movie is about Nat Turner, a slave, who led a rebellion along with other slaves and freed blacks in Southampton, Virginia in 1831. The movie has already received an award at the Sundance Film Festival and Fox Searchlight paid $17.5 million for the distribution of the movie. However, that doesn’t stop the controversy over Mr. Parker and his past.
