Transcript: Hello. My name is jolene jang from Seattle, Washington. (In my photo, you will see I am middle-aged Asian American with long brown hair and ------ top who is smiling). Thank you Professional Conference Management Association and Louisville Tourism for awarding me with the Humanitarian Scholarship for my work on Asian Inclusion. It is a touchy topic to talk about discrimination, hate, and violence. Most of the time, I feel like no one is listening. Like many other Asian Americans, I often feel invisible. Soooo…It is a great honor to have a distinguished global organizations like PCMA, and, representing from one of top 10 compassionate cities in the country, Louisville Tourism, recognize and validate my efforts to educate people to be Asian Inclusive. I wouldn't be receiving this gift of acknowledgement and opportunity if it weren't for · PCMA’s Madeline Schmick who encouraged me to apply for this scholarship, who learned about me because of · Joan Eisenstodt, former PCMA Lifetime Educator award winner and Asian Ally who nominated me for the Advocate of the Year, and · John Chen who founded APIEventProfs to increase and elevate API representation in our hospitality industry. I am honored to be a finalist for this visionary award. There are two groups I founded who keep me motivated. · Empowered Asians - where the members have shared hundreds of stories of what their experiences as Asian Americans experiencing life now, and · Asian Allies who learn and take action to be Asian-Inclusive in their communities. And Because of these initiatives to promote inclusion, I am attending the Convening Leaders Convention for the first time. This enables me to meet influential professionals who can bring the message of Asian inclusion, a message I work to amplify daily, to a global audience.
