Jolene Jang's video: Dear Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific IsIanders I want to listen to you

@Dear Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific IsIanders, I want to listen to you.
Hello AANHPI Community, You don't know me, but I want to get to you know and your story. Likely not many people have listened to you whole-heartedly. I want to hear what you are going through and what you need in order to make changes at your work place, so you feel like you belong. Many of us have had to reach out to Asian strangers to find another individuals to talk to, who will listen, understand, relate and not dismiss us. If you have a primarily White community, like myself you understand the challenges. You are not alone. Many of us with established networks, are suffering, because our friends and connections just don't get asian americans and do not see any problems are too busy to learn. I have dedicated all my hours this last 401 days to increase awareness about hate crimes targeting Asians in order to improve the safety for us and to lift up Asians. We have all experienced discrimination for being Asian. The reason, I am all in is because this is a life and death situation living as an Asian in American right now. I do not have a history of trauma that most asian americans have, so I am using my privileges to amplify Asian voices and to make changes. I am japanese, chinese and swedish. I am 4th generation in America. My grandma was blond. My mom was born during WW2 during the incarceration, so she was not taught Japanese. My dad, who is Chinese and Swedish, had the opposite of a typical chinese upbringing. He was somewhat of foster kid running around at the age of 4 with limited guardianship and expectations for him. • Growing up, my lunches were sandwiches like everyone else. I didn't have to hide my food or starve myself to avoid being teased. • Everyone can pronounce my southern name Jolene including Dolly Parton • No one asked to cheat off of me or to calculate for them. I was not bullied, so I am not triggered like many Asians. That is why I have the capacity to do this taxing, demanding work. It is steep climb and I cannot see the top, but I believe it is there. It is infuriating to see Asians like you and I get stabbed every day, but that is why we must persist. We must do what we can. We all have different walks of life, styles of how we navigate through the day, but lets do this together. At your workplace, introduce me to your Asian ERG or affinity group. Let's have a conversation and see what we can do to make your place where you feel like you belong. https://jolenejang.com/corporate/for-asian-employee-resource-groups/ And personally, you are also invited to join Empowered Asians and or Asian Allies FB Groups.
