I selected this neighborhood on the Southside of Chicago known as Pilsen. I selected Pilsen for the rich colors, art, murals and the strong culture in this neighborhood and I incorporated every detail into this scene and the music selection tied in perfectly with this production. It’s home to award-winning restaurants, iconic music venues, and sensational murals as far as the eye can see. Maybe that’s why it was named one of the “12 Coolest Neighborhoods Around the World” by Forbes. Pilsen is also a haven for offbeat boutiques, hip eateries, and cool music venues standing alongside bodegas, panaderias, and family-owned restaurants serving authentic Mexican cuisine. Don’t miss the National Museum of Mexican Art while you’re there. This free museum immerses visitors in Mexican culture through a stunning collection of textiles, folk art, prints, photos, and more. Pilsen is also home to one of the city’s most beloved music venues, Thalia Hall, where you can catch indie rockers, famed comedians, and live DJs in a striking space modeled after the Prague Opera House. The venue shares a historic building with Dusek’s Board & Beer (award-winning tavern fare), Punch House (’70s vibes and large format drinks), and Tack Room (live piano music in the building’s former carriage house). Besides a passion for rapping and hip hop, MOECYRUS actively plays drums in two hardcore bands. This genre and style acts as a foundation for MOE’s instrumental producing and sense of rhythmic percussion. Playing in these bands has also expanded MOE’s breathed of touring knowledge and what it takes to be a traveling and performing musician. His latest record release was a 15 track LP titled You Gotta Be FKN Kidding Me, this project did 16k streams in its first week across all streaming platforms. He featured recording artists such as Vagabond Maurice of SlumpGang777, Baskaveli, Orlando Coolridge of SlumpGang777, Chris Crack, and Michael Christmas. The LP featured production from Brandun Deshay formerly of Odd Future, Cuzzin Vinny, Lil Kydd, Chief Takinawa, Chris Ruben, and MOECYRUS himself. The entire project was mixed and mastered by Chicago’s own RedBull Finalist and Producer/Engineer Brotha Gif.
