Ep. , “Return to the 36th Chamber”, aka "Return of the Master Killer", starring Liu Chia Hui, Hsiao Hou and Wang Lung Wei. My newest delay turned out to be one of the worst: Win10 Creators was not compatible with my desktop, and over the several months that passed trying to resolve it, my "studio" drive got hopelessly corrupted. I'm still working to salvage my projects, especially my super-huge "Chop-Sucky" folder, without benefit of a recent backup, but the most important stuff was saved, and I finally managed another video. This film is a follow-up to the all-time classic "36th Chamber of Shaolin", with an alternate title to match, even though the "Master" stayed "away", and wasn't a "Killer" of anyone regardless. Moreover, "Gordon" Liu ends up playing someone else, in order to remain as the "main" character, while the role of San De goes to one of director Master Lau's (Liu Chia Liang) most dependable assistants, Ching Chu. Lau protégé Hsiao Hou sports a HUGE overbite prosthetic to complete a HUGE Chinese "coolie" stereotype, and in another conceit worthy of the "surreptitious kung fu" found in "Dirty Ho", Master Lau uses his stunt people to help stage very elaborate scenes of day laborers getting convincingly beaten up all over the place. This video was an opportunity to further develop editing techniques for dealing with the awful editing decisions of Celestial Pictures' original re-mastering process. It's not quite perfected yet, but I have to find ways to extend shots that were cut brutally short, so that the audio doesn't suffer as badly as it does on the DVDs that were released.
