Champion” from Pokémon Gold Version Originally composed by Junichi Masuda I’ll have some things to say about being effectively “defunct” for 3 years (not dissimilar to my other slowdowns), but I needed to put up a tribute today. We lost one of our great musicians at the OverClocked ReMix community: Daniel Woodyer, the artist known as “PirateCrab”, and one of our guitar gods. I’m involved because before I attended our panel at OTAKON in 2015, I made a last-minute decision to put together a sort-of AMV as an opener. Editing and rendering was done all the way up to literally seconds before our panel started, so if a video could somehow express “stream-of-consciousness”, this would be it. The idea behind it was a quick showcase of every single video game with an arrangement at our site, but also adapted as “anime” up to that point. Please don’t ask me to recall from eight years ago what exactly my criteria was: “anime” is now a loaded term mostly because of miserable people upset that their favorite “doesn’t count”, and I have no interest in re-litigating. I encourage folks to identify the clips I used… I honestly don’t remember some of the stuff I put in. I’m willing to caption the selections on-screen with the info. I picked one of our Pokémon arrangements for use - “The Metal Side of Lance” - as the most appropriate and the most amazing music track for the project. This thing sat for years due to my terrible indecision; I didn’t manage to find a good reason to present it. I wanted to give props to PirateCrab on the news of his passing, so this solemn occasion will have to do, but I wish it wasn’t thus.
