The best place for the cheapest budget friendly Ha Long Bay cruise boat tour! Cat Ba Island, Vietnam. Our final stop before arriving in Hanoi was Cat Ba Island, the largest island of Ha Long Bay in North East Vietnam. We had been told by many people that this was the best place to go for a budget friendly boat tour of Ha Long Bay without the crowds of tourists.. so as usual we took the advice! We decided to stay in Woodstock, a relaxing hippy style hostel next to the beach as it offered boat tours directly and the beach was on our front doorstep. The tour from the hostel cost an acceptable $20 and lasted the whole day! We were picked up at 8am from the hostel and taken to our boat for the day. For the first part of the tour we briefly passed through a fishing village before going through Lan Ha Bay which surrounded us with the incredible limestone islets and fishing boats. It was like being on another planet, just a shame the weather wasn't complimenting the views. Next up was a visit to a fish farm to learn about how they grow fish, followed by some kayaking through the caves, but unfortunately the weather had other ideas so we had to take shelter for over an hour. Once the rain had stopped we spent around an hour kayaking through low hanging caves and getting up close the the gigantic limestone cliffs, it really was magical. The next stop was a secluded beach where we could swim and snorkel. Me and Louis recently got new tattoos in Saigon so instead of risking an infection from swimming a I took this oppurtunity to see Ha Long Bay from the sky. I don't regret this decision because it looked even more amazing from the sky! Finally we briefly passed through a fishing village again before heading back to the hostel at 5pm. We had planned to catch one last sunset but unfortunately the weather wasn't playing along, however I took the drone up anyway for one final flight in Cat Ba.
