Phoenix, AZ is right behind in 5th place with a population of 1.7 Million people. Phoenix has advantages of better weather (less humidity & no harsh winter), a nicer freeway system, newer infrastructure, no threat of natural disaster, less congestion, more outdoor activities, and lower property taxes. Houston has more Fortune 500 companies, and no state income tax. Both cities have top tier universities & healthcare systems. Phoenix-Scottsdale can be a much nicer place to live compared to Houston if you choose the right areas set up your life. McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale is a great example of a nice neighborhood that is affordable, accessible, low to no crime, and scenic and green.
