Julian Thurgood's video: Steam at Kirkby Stephen East - 25 August 2019

@Steam at Kirkby Stephen East - 25 August 2019
On the 2019 August Bank Holiday Weekend, the Stainmore Railway at Kirkby Stephen East Station ran a steam train service with 'doubled headed' Peckett steam locos along their short stretch of restored railway line. The Station building is in the process of restoration by the volunteers - hoping to make it look like it did back in its days of being a working station. The original line ran from Clifton, just south of Penrith on the West Coast Main Line via Appleby East, with another branch coming from Tebay on the West Coast Main Line via Smardale, to Kirkby Stephen East. From here the line continued to Stainmore and on to Barnard Castle. On display in the station is North Eastern Railway, 2-4-0 No 910, designed by Edward Fletcher, built at Gateshead in 1875, withdrawn in 1925, on loan from the National Railway Museum. We travelled in the 1930 Gresley 4 Compartment Corridor Brake Coach no 3669, restored to a beautiful condition. See http://www.kirkbystepheneast.co.uk/ for more information about the railway and the facilities at the station.
