Julian Thurgood's video: The 50th anniversary of the end of steam

@The 50th anniversary of the end of steam.
On 11th August 1968, steam on British Railways ended with a special trip - the Fifteen Guinea Special. Today - 50 years later, 3 steam hauled trains traveled over the Settle Carlisle line. 'The Settle and Carlisle Golden Express' came from Bristol to Appleby and back, with steam haulage by 60009 'Union of South Africa' between Crewe and Appleby, travelling north via Shap, and south via Settle. 'The Cumbrian Mountain Express' from London to Carlisle north via Shap and south via Settle was hauled by 45699 'Galatea'. 'The Waverley' came from York to Carlisle and back via Settle, hauled by 45690 'Leander'. Seen here first at Penrith Station are 60009 'Union of South Africa' followed closely by 45699 'Galatea'. Then a quick trip to Appleby Station to see 45690 'Leander' arrive, have a quick stop, then depart, followed almost immediately by the arrival of 60009 'Union of South Africa'. 60009 is then parked in the Appleby sidings and the customers explore Appleby or stay to watch the trains. Then south to see the return of 'Leander' passing over Moorcock Viaduct, then through Garsdale Station. Going north back to Kirkby Stephen we arrived just as the early 60009 was rushing through! Sadly all 3 trains were 'diesel assisted' due to the potential fire risk (despite recent rain!)
