On tuesday 30th April we saw the 'Great Britain XII' charter train day 4 of 9, from Preston to Edinburgh via Shap and Beattock stop at Carlisle for an hour. It was hauled by a double head of LNER A4 no 60009 'Union of South Africa' and Black Five no 44871. later that day this years first 'Dalesman' trip from York to Carlisle via the Settle line arrived (an hour late) hauled by LMS Princess Royal Class no 6201 'Princess Elizabeth'.
