@The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express - 25 Jan 2020 - 35018 - Garsdale
On a dull, gloomy, cold and foggy day the first steam charter of this year came to Carlisle from Manchester via the famous Settle to Carlisle line. The tour returned south via Shap. Seen here going north past Garsdale Station (whose signal box looks in need of some care and attention). At the end is a shot of the dog Ruswarp, who belonged to Graham Nuttall, one of the founding members of the group that saved the Settle-Carlisle Railway from closure. He famously stayed by his owner's side for 11 weeks after Nuttall died in 1990 while out walking in winter conditions in the Welsh mountains. Ruswarp died shortly after Nuttall's funeral. The statue of Ruswarp was unveiled by BR project manager Ron Cotton at the re-opening of Garsdale Station in 2009.
