The Railway Touring Company's charter 'Cumbria Mountain Express' came from London Euston to Carlisle and back, with steam haulage by LMS 45690 'Leander' between Carnforth and Carlisle on the West Coast Main Line coming north, then south via the Settle line and Blackburn to Preston. The train is seen coming north at Salterwath as it approaches Shap Summit, then at Kirkby Stephen Station on the southbound trip.
