Jump Science's video: The foot is a first class lever

@The foot is a first class lever?
The achilles tendon has a mechanical DIS-advantage in the battle against body weight. (So, my biomechanics people, it might be more sensible to view the foot as a first class lever with the fulcrum at the ankle.) This disadvantage may seem unfortunate, but it’s actually good for generating velocity. If that’s tough to believe, look up “Built for speed: musculoskeletal structure and sprinting ability.” This research found that on average the achilles tendon in collegiate sprinters had a greater mechanical disadvantage than in non-athletes.
