Amid Pakistan’s ongoing economic crisis, videos have emerged on social media showing desperate measures to acquire cooking gas. In the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, locals are using huge plastic bags to store liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) due to a shortage of gas cylinders. These plastic bags are filled with natural gas at shops connected to the country’s gas pipeline network. To prevent leakage, vendors tightly seal the bags with a nozzle and valve. People then use the gas with the help of a small electric suction pump. However, this practice is extremely dangerous, as even a slight error can lead to a leak and explosion.
