A Louisville Metro Police officer shot and killed a man who injured another officer with a knife, police said. Chief Steve Conrad and Commander of the Special Investigations Division Maj. Frank Hardison released body camera video from the incident. Officers went to the 400 block of North 42nd Street just after 10 p.m. Wednesday after receiving multiple reports of a man breaking out windows. Family members also called police. Conrad said when officers arrived at home they encountered family members who described a "disturbance" inside the home involving Isaac Jackson. As officers talked to family members, Jackson set a fire inside the home, police said. Officers approached Jackson, he threw at least one knife at the officers. Officer DeGerald Watson-Morton was hit in the leg. Watson-Morton suffered a minor leg injury and was transported to University Hospital. Body camera video from Officer Brendan Kaiser shows him firing several shots after repeatedly telling Jackson to put his hands in the air. Kaiser can be heard in the video saying that Jackson had a knife with him at the time. As Kaiser approaches Jackson, he realizes a fire has been set in a nearby bedroom. He waits for help to arrive and then tends to Jackson. Conrad explained the limitations of body camera video. “Unlike some of the recent officer-involved shootings we’ve had, you will see the impact of the limited field of view in this situation," Conrad said. "Because of this limitation, we can’t see what the officer saw when the decision was made to use deadly force. So, it is critically important that we conduct a thorough and complete investigation to fully understand what happened last night and why."
