A Kansas City teenager who went into cardiac arrest after being shot in the chest with a Taser by an Independence police officer has filed a federal suit against the manufacturer and the department. The suit filed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City says Taser International marketed a “defective, unreasonably dangerous” product and misled their customers about the safety risks involved in its use. Bryce Masters was 17 in September 2014 and nearly died after he was shot in the chest by the Taser. He suffered a brain injury that continues to affect his memory and cognitive abilities, according to the suit. A spokesman for the Independence Police Department said Tuesday that the department does not comment on pending litigation.
