K2M Photography's video: Westbury Fire Department Building Fire Covert Lane 5-5-21

On the night of Wednesday, May 5th, 2021 the Westbury Fire Department was called to a building fire on Grand Boulevard off Covert Lane. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with a fully involved commercial building housing a carting company. A working fire was immediately transmitted followed by the request that all ladders be tower ladders. The fire quickly became a multiple alarm operation as firefighters battled heavy fire throughout the building which was comprised of mostly solid waste and other rubbish. Firefighters’ efforts were hindered by the inability to access all sides of the building due to railroad tracks and low water pressure in the area. The operation lasted over twenty-four hours. During that time dozens of mutual aid departments from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties were either called to the scene for relief purposes or to standby. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department Gass [9601].
