I was working at Trader Joe's at the time, (early 2015), and living in an apartment in Brooklyn, (an alley-oop from my fam Amir and Hannah). I remember having a writers block that had already lasted many months coupled with some mysterious ailment that rendered me hoarse for almost a month, at that point. I was stressed, couldn't finish a single song, and felt like opportunities were constantly slipping through my fingers. I remember clocking in to work one morning and getting situated behind my register for the hour, staring at the register, and feeling so spiritually drained that I legitimately could not lift my arm to tell my manager that I was ready to start. I felt like I had maxed out. I literally could not lift my arm. It was this moment where I realized I was done. I was no longer willing to trade my time, focus, creativity, and life force, for cheep and fleeting security...So I quit, (well...I put in my two weeks notice, but "I quit" just sounded cooler). I remember the night sky after my last day at work. It was a deep Marine Blue. It smelled felt like freshly clothes without dryer sheets, it tasted like freedom, it was bitter and sweet. I will always remember that blue and that feeling.
