Though it is usually perceived as a color of joy and happiness, it is for that reason that it reveals itself to me as a color of such resilience. I’ve often found that many people within the environments that I’ve experienced find it more difficult to maintain joy and similar feelings than their antonymous emotions. To maintain a sense of joyous gratitude and happiness in situations that seem to heavily contradict such emotional states takes a certain tenacious and resilient perseverance. Such has been the nature of many oppressed peoples. Amidst oppression, possessing the ability to maintain a moral that not only allows for the pursuit of ones liberation in society, but also within creative expression, which could, in turn inspire future generations to do the same amidst their own “Goliaths”. In this song I acknowledge the presence of the weight of systematic oppression in America and vow to not only contribute my life to lifting it, but to view such as a dumbbell. To use my adversity to inspire strength, which I use in turn to obliterate it.
