JYOTI SARUP KANYA ASRA NGO started its journey in 1998 with the motive to lend a helping hand to orphaned and poor girls. Dr. Harminder Singh started this project-kindness with nine little angels, and today with your support and god’s grace, we are a family with 142 girls plus staff. Jyoti Sarup Kanya Asra had been home with a new beginning for the girls who had lost their parents. With the support of our contributors, we were able to expand our ability to help and increase our infrastructural capacity. From a small room to a complete house (rented), and from there to purchasing our group’s property (plot) in 2009 and later developing our infrastructure, your donations have helped us reach a much larger group that needed our help. A true story of hope...In 2010, the lives of 3 sisters, 9-year-old Anu, 7-year-old Rajni, and 1-year-old Pooja stared in devastation as they lost their parents in Sawara, a village in the district of Mohali, Punjab. Left with no one to even provide a meal a day the 3 little kids faced an uncertain future where food, shelter, security, and education looked like a distant dream. The poor kids were left with no option but to work at people's houses or even beg for food! Taking notice of their plight, Sardar Darshan Singh Dhaliwal an advocate/social worker approached Dr. Harminder Singh - Founder of Jyoti Sarup Kanya Asra, home of hope for the Girl Child in Kharar, Punjab. The children were immediately adopted as daughters and 5 years later, today Anu(14), Rajni(12), and Pooja(6) go to school, enjoy meals, and play with 80 other children in the home of the divine we call Jyoti Sarup Kanya Asra! The three kids today look forward to a bright future and food, shelter, and security is no longer an obstacle. Their lives are being enriched with love and affection and with 80 sisters around they have nothing that can stop them now. It is the effort of people like Sardar Darshan Singh that society still is a place for the girl child. At Jyoti Sarup Kanya Asra we are thankful to our donors, sympathizers, and friends whose contribution helps us to hold our heads high and serve the divine in form of the girl children.
