P. C. Negi, MBBS, MD, DM received his training in Medicine (MBBS), Internal Medicine (MD) and Cardiology (DM) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Over the past seven years, Dr. Negi has engaged in research and capacity building initiatives to study cardiovascular disease and its risk factors, and Rheumatic Fever/Rheumatic Heart Disease in children in Himachal Pradesh, and to train regional medical and paramedical staff to identify and screen high risk patients. He has been involved in all aspects of programs, from study design to development of patient registries, engagement in community awareness campaigns about cardiovascular diseases to impact and outcomes assessments. He is currently Co-PI of a multicenter population-based randomized controlled cluster intervention trial to demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of an intervention in early childhood based intervention with Anganwadi (community based health) workers as the center of knowledge dissemination for diet and lifestyle intervention in prevention and control of Hypertension and other NCD risk determinants. Dr. Negi has a strong interest in pursuing research in the field of cardiovascular epidemiology to gain insights into the higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the state of Himachal Pradesh and to develop and validate CV risk prediction models in this population, as well as in carrying out translational research to demonstrate intervention feasibility and efficacy in controlling and reducing the burden of CVD in this region. He would also like to engage in efforts to influence state policy makers to incorporate suggested policy interventions and to create an enabling environment for the promotion of public health and the primary and secondary prevention of CVD.
