Kale Project's video: Norway ESC Selection Norsk Melodi Grand Prix 2023 Top 21 With Comments After Show

Songwriting-wise, this was a pretty strong Norwegian selection. It's usually not one of my favourites but, I have to admit, a few of these were definitely strong songs. Unless Norway pick something really unexpected from the finalists, I can't imagine they'd have difficulty qualifying. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the performances of the songs that much this year because of the fairly blatant over-wise of auto-tune. I'm a huge opponent of its usage in music contests and one of the reasons I'm such a huge Eurovision fan, is that I feel I get a more genuine experience than I do from a lot of mainstream chart music, at least when it comes time for the acts to perform it. I hope Norway take another look at their rules and maybe look at some of the performances that lost the sort of emotional heft that they could've had, if only they had been performed with a natural, imperfect vocal. Nobody asked for this, and it's not too late to get back to how it should be. Aside from that, good luck, Norway in making your choice!
