Born on the 5th of July to to Sub Maj & Hony Capt (Late) Satya Prasad Bhatt and Mrs (Late) Sushila Bhatt, who had long awaited the arrival of their child, he came to this world to parents who were ready to offer him limitless possibilities and love no matter what they had to sacrifice. As his father was often not home due to a lot of outstation postings, He became one of the heads of the household and a lot of responsibilities were given to him early on. Soon he was joined by his sister Anita and brother Sunil. He did his initial schooling from Hampton Court and St George College, Mussoorie. He had a happy childhood among the hills which gave him strength in more ways than one. Being a fauji’s son his attraction for uniform was unquestioned but he wanted to also pursue his passion for caring for the people. His father of course wanted him to be an IAS officer, may be attracted by the Lal Bahadur IAS Academy at Mussoorie, however his clearing the NDA entrance exam and standing very high in merit there decided his destiny. He joined NDA in Jan 1978 and there was no lookin back thereafter. He set out to join the army, something which would take him places in life he never could’ve imagined. He joined NDA 59th Course, ‘A’ Squadron. It his here he was nurtured and trained to become a officer of our great army. NDA which is called a cradle of leadership and is supposed to forge iron into steel, changed this shy small town schoolboy to a confident young cadet, a potential Army officer. He passed out from IMA on 19 Dec 1981. While in IMA, Gentleman Bhatt was known for his physical prowess. While carrying out there difficult jungle and mountain training exercises he was known to be carrying the heaviest weapon and also taking along the weaker cadets or stragglers without making them feel embarrassed. He had aspirations to join the engineers unit which was his father’s but was commissioned into the 4th Bn the 9th Gorkha Rifles (CHINDITS). A unit which became one of the most important things in his life and became a defining characteristic of his character. After excelling in the YOs course and after his fd tenure at Tangdhar, he was posted as a Commando Instructor in Mar 1987, an appointment which exhibited epitome of physical fitness and mental robustness. He in April 1988 got married to Ranjana, someone who ensured that after his countless tours, postings, TDs .
