Before women were not working and it would not have made sense to expect her to pay for her meal when you go for a date (even if some were working the pay was very low compared to what the male counterparts were getting). Paying for the first date then was also a silent way of a guy trying to impress a woman with his financial ability. Dating has evolved as more people get connected and advancements that foster socialization grows. It’s no longer a guy just trying to impress Becky from down the block because they live in a small town and Becky is all he can see. Of cos when your options are limited you tend to be creative to get what you want. You are in a time when you are connected to millions of women that could be your potential partner. I think a little financial grace would be in order when you are trying to find your way through the confusion that comes with having too many options.
