The Saivite liturgical work 'Tirumandiram' in Tamil, authored by the Saint Tirumular (dating back to the early years of the 1st millennium CE) describes in great detail, the various elements of ashtanga yoga with specifics on the physical asanas. This piece is part of the 'Murasu Tamil Symphony' composed and directed by Dr Kanniks Kannikeswaran, that premiered at the World Tamil Conference and the 50th year of the Chicago Tamil Sangam and the FETNA convention, in Chicago in July 2019 to an audience of more than 5000. Performed by a Tamil choir with singers mostly from the Chicago area - with additional singers from Cincinnati OH, Atlanta GA, St Louis MO and several other places.
