I just want you guys to know, that to me a Jetko edit is like spiced dark rum and lemonade, a cold drink on a hot day, gold dust in a room full of darkness. To make that Zutara vid, I had to rewatch a LOT of old Avatar episodes, and I properly noticed something. Something that had been there, right in front of me, for YEARS, but that I'd totally overlooked before I stopped viewing the world through het glasses. What was it, you ask? Jet, my swashbuckling problematic fave, was head over heels OBSESSED with Zuko even BEFORE he found out he was a firebender. Never mind that Zuko shows literally ZERO interest in return, it's honestly hilarious. You only need to watch 2x12-14 to realise how tragically one-sided Jet's interest is, or revisit school time shipping (I was SO blind) https://twitter.com/kaorusan241/status/869602332425818112 Regardless, it did get me thinking... what could have happened if Iroh hadn't heated his tea? Would Zuko have eventually caved and joined the freedom fighters? I mean just picture it: Jet visiting Zuko at the tea shop every day, trying to coax him into joining his group of vagabonds, before eventually realising that his interest ran deeper than that... Then maybe they go on a date or two, and at the end of season 2 Jet finds out that Zuko was the crown prince of the FIRE NATION all along and is so incredibly betrayed. Maybe he ends up at the Boiling Rock and Zuko and Sokka break him out with the others, but he's still so unbelievably ANGRY. Because here's the thing, and it's what makes this ship so much more tragic than any other in Avatar. Even if Jet does forgive Zuko, and I'm not so sure that he could, the kind of upbringing he's had means that their relationship would only ever be strained. Added to that the pressure of Zuko providing an heir when he becomes firelord... it's honestly incredible. SO, have I caught your attention yet? This vid was rushed and my powers of persuasion aren't great, but I strongly recommend you going to AO3 and having a look at the fanfic for these two. A starting point might be "Hooked", set in canon (http://archiveofourown.org/works/154372/chapters/221768). Anyone who is familiar with this ship will doubtless also have heard of "Something to Hold Onto" - which is literally the length of an entire book, so I'll be reading that over summer and I'll tweet what I think of it! Side-note, anyone recognise this band? I mentioned in my tutorial a while back that I'm mostly into rock music although I don't edit it much (speaking of, the new Foo song that came out yesterday is SO GOOD).
