Karen Leggett D.O.'s video: A Home for Kitty

@A Home for Kitty
We had the most amazing emotional rollercoaster Day this past weekend! Tears of sadness and tears of happiness... fear and faith... joy and apprehension - all rolled up in less than 24 hours. It started Friday evening around dusk when we ran to the grocery store about 30 minutes from the campground. When we arrived at this extremely busy intersection - all 6 lanes of traffic were busy in all directions, surrounded with shopping centers on both sides of the streets and no nearby neighborhoods. ... there she was, a precious black and white kitten. A tiny little thing - maybe 8 weeks old at most. I knelt down and put out my hands. She took only one look at me and stretched her entire body out as far as she could as if she was saying... "I want you to hold me... but I am a little unsure." It was an instant bond. I immediately started taking the kitty from store to store and asking the employees if they knew anything about her. In the store we met an amazing girl who took pictures of the kitty and immediately posted them on Facebook where the post was shared 281 times in 12 hours! Thank you lovely Dana - my new West Virginia friend. We took our new little kitty home to the RV and fixed her up with a litter box in the shower, food which she gobbled up, and one of Inka's beds. Inka was NOT happy (as you will see!). But the kitty was so innocent, and so happy to be with us. She fit like a perfect snug glove. Well... Inka didn't think so. We found a no-kill shelter on the internet that we knew we had to take her to in the morning. Surely she would be adopted. She had to be. She was just too cute and had an amazing loving personality! Right? Right? We didn't have anything to worry about... right?! Saturday would soon arrive - the day David and I had been waiting for all year. It was the Antique Car Show at Pipestem State Park. The very show we had planned to attend since last year's Antique Car Show. We decided we would get up early, go to the car show and then return to the RV to do what we didn't want to do... but knew we HAD to do. The night was perfect. Kitty slept like a baby. And just as she had greeted me with love and acceptance the previous day, when she saw me in the morning, she stretched out and slid her belly on the floor - to my arms. So... we went to the show. It was another great car show. I bought 20 dollars worth of raffle tickets. The winning ticket would be announced at 4 p.m. and I just felt lucky. Honestly... It was for a good cause. They were 50/50 tickets... so to me... it was a donation and appreciation for simply just being present. Then the icky words: David said... "Let's go get the bad thing over with." We drove to the shelter and just as we arrived, it seemed everyone and their brother arrived at the same time. As the crowd died down, we reluctantly got out of the car and went inside. There was a pretty girl at the front counter checking out with her little son. She was finishing up the adoption of a little black kitten she had just chosen to call her own. As I started to tell our story... this lovely girl looked at me and said "I'll take her. I really wanted to get two kitties today, but could only afford one of the adoption fees today." WHAT? REALLY? Are you kidding me? Could this be for real? Could this lovely girl (probably still in her late 20's), REALLY be OUR kitty's new mommy AND our kitty have a new baby brother to boot? Right there... right there and then... we hugged, cried, and shared phone numbers. We met her newly adopted kitty who was all black and playing in the playroom with her 6 year old adorable, (and I mean adorable!) daughter. And that was just the first part of the Universe kissing me on Saturday! David and I made it back to the Antique Car Show just in time to enjoy the awards ceremony - AND to hear OUR ticket called for the grand prize of $1,754.00! So... I hope you enjoy the video of this amazing day. It doesn't really even do justice to so many other things that happened all day long. The friendships didn't even stop with Dana (our FB posting angel) and Sara ("our" kitty's new mommy!) We made many more friends that day at the show as well. The Universe gave us such an amazing gift of love, joy and appreciation this past weekend. We are Grateful. And I hope you enjoy the little clips of video of this special day I put together for you. Especially the movie clip of David collecting our raffle money! - I stuffed that big wad of money in my bra! www.drkarenleggett.com
