In this complete yoga practice, we prepare to extend the front of the body in Chakrasana (Wheel Pose). This back bending pose develops flexibility of the spine and increases one's sense of wellbeing. We begin with gentle supported back bends with a block/cushion and progress to warming sun salutes. This practice also includes Anjenayasana (Low Lunge) plus twist to open across the upper back, wrist stretching Padahastasana (Feet to Hand Pose), shoulder mobilising Gomukhasana (Cow Face Pose); and back strengthening Salabhasana (Locust Pose) and Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose). Chakrasana (Wheel Pose) contraindications: 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy; abdominal surgery; high blood pressure; acute back problems or when there is pain in the shoulder, elbow or wrist joints. Bridge Pose is a lighter alternative. This practice is suitable for new and experienced yogis - options are provided throughout the class.
