KdawgCrazy Outdoors's video: Bushcraft Steak on the BushBox XL Ti Camping in the Paria Mesh Bivy Kelty Range Tarp

@Bushcraft Steak on the BushBox XL Ti | Camping in the Paria Mesh Bivy & Kelty Range Tarp
Finally, I got a backpacking trip out to my favorite secluded camping spot by a creek to test out the Paria Mesh Bivy and grill up a steak on the Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox XL Titanium. I also practiced some fire making techniques using my new large Bayite Ferro Rod (1/2”x6”), Mora Garberg knife and an aluminum drinking straw I found at my local gas station that makes the perfect mini bellows to keep my camp fire roaring hot. I’ve switched out the MSR Trailshot water filter in favor of the Katadyn BeFree water filter for its ease of use and faster flow rate. The Trailshot flow rate slowed down significantly after the first couple of uses even after cleaning it out multiple times. I’ve listed some details about some of the gear I used on this trip down below. If you have any questions about the gear used in this video please ask them in the comment section and I will respond same day. This is KdawgCrazy. Thanks for watching and I will... See you on the trail! The Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox XL Titanium The Bushbox XL Titanium has amazing airflow and the perfect sized fire box. Using 4 of their trivets you can make the perfect grill surface to cook on, hold a cook pot and even pick up the stove to move it or dump out the ash while the stove is still hot. The titanium version is so light, at 19.7 oz with 4 trivets, that it’s the perfect all purpose large wood stove. In the video you can see how much wood it’s able to hold and the fire went for a long time with no help, leaving me with a perfect hot coal bed for a smokeless cooking heat. I also bought the Trangia gas burner to use with this stove in the winter. It works really well with the Trangia alcohol stove as well. With it being a multifuel stove, light weight and quick to deploy and pack up, this has easily become my new favorite stove. I have a lot of wood stoves but this one is simply easier to use and lightweight enough to go on all my trips. ***UPDATE*** Shortly, after posting this video, Bushcraft Essentials contacted me because I had mentioned the pins had slid out of the hinges that hold the stove together before my first use. They immediately sent a replacement stove. That is the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I've ever experienced! If you haven't already looked into Bushcraft Essentials I highly recommend you check out their awesome line of wood stoves and accessories at https://www.bushcraft-essentials.com/english Paria Outdoor Products Breeze Mesh Bivy/Bug Bivy I primarily bought this bug bivy to use with different tarp shelter configurations for keeping bugs out. Bivy-Only Weight: 13 ounces Size: 84L x 33W (inches) tapering down to 31W at foot end Head End Height: 25 inches Fabric, canopy: 20D no-see-um mesh Fabric, floor: 30D silnylon (silicon/PU dual-coating and fully taped seams, 5,000 mm rating) Kelty Range Tarp This is my favorite go-to tarp/tarp tent because of how many different ways you can configure it as shown in the video. 2 person tarp tent/tarp Tent body weight: 2 lb 4 oz. Size: 9 ft.x5 ft. Height: 46 inches Fabric: 40D SilNylon (but appears to only be coated on inside of tent/tarp) The Mora Garberg knife THIS IS AN AMAZING KNIFE! It does hold up to all the hype. For me, it seems to be the perfect weight, blade length and all around size. The handle has good grip and it’s of course full tang so I have no reservations against batoning with it. It has a 90 degree spine perfect for use on a ferro rod and for processing wood and other natural tinders down to small shavings without dulling the blades edge. Mine, as shown in the video with plastic sheath, belt loop attachment, paracord and duck tape weights in at 7.79 oz. That is amazing for an all purpose full tang bushcraft knife. Total length 9.0 inches (229 mm); blade length 4.3 inches (109 mm); blade thickness 0.13 inches (3.2 mm); weight 9.6 oz. (272 g) My only complaint is that there is no choil or any finger guard to keep people like me from sliding their fingers down onto the blade. This and the Mora Eldris are the only 2 knives I carry now. Bayite Ferro Rod (1/2”x6”) I have struggled in the past with getting a fire started using natural tinders and smaller ferro rods so my thinking was “Go Big or Go Home”. Before taking this out into the field I added some orange duck tape and a snake braided orange paracord lanyard. That helps with holding onto the rod and with finding it after setting it down. This is the biggest ferro rod I have and weighs in at 4.9 oz. with the duck tape and paracord lanyard. Using the sharp 90 degree spine of the Mora Garberg knife on that large ferro rod I was easily able to get my fire going.
