I’ve always thought of “We’re Not Gonna Take It” as the best Alice Cooper song that Alice Cooper had nothing to do with. Dee Snyder has often cited AC as a major influence, and at one time Twister Sister even auditioned formed AC Group drummer Neal A. Smith to possibly join the band (though they turned him down as they considered his style “too 70s” for an 80s band). The reason I cite the AC influence is not only the theme of the song, vocal style, etc., but at the end when Dee is saying lines like “you’re all worthless and weak” and “now drop and give me 20”, AC did stuff like that all the time during the ending fades of his songs. Interestingly, those lines were taken from the movie Animal House, were spoken by the character Niedermeyer, and the actor who portrayed Niedermeyer, Mark Metcalf, was cast in the song’s music video. This is a straight up drum part focused on the heavy beat, but late, great drummer A.J. Pero throws in lots of tasty bits. Pero ended his career in the band Adrenaline Mob (replacing Mike Portnoy), and died from a heart attack while on tour with that band in 2015. The song hit on Billboard’s Hot 100, and was also 21 on VH1's 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 80s. Very fun tune.
