I’ve been wanting to cover Heart for a while, and ultimately settled on “Even It Up” because I like the song, enjoy the drum part, and because the kick on “Barracuda” is a bit too fast for my right foot (ha!). I think Mike Derosier is one of rock’s true underrated drummers. He is always tasteful and creative, but since he is rarely flashy, I suspect he gets somewhat overlooked. On this song I think his various uses of the open hi-hat are really cool. This was the only single off 1980’s “Bébé le Strange” to reach Billboard’s Hot 100, peaking at .
