Kemp Strings's video: Training Your Trem - Getting your Strat tremolo to reset in tune - Jonathan Kemp of Kemp Strings

This video demonstrates how “training your trem” works to get your Strat* style guitar to return to good tuning after using the tremolo arm. The first half of the video discusses how to “train your trem using pull ups” by pulling up on the tremolo arm and tuning up repeatedly until the tuning is stable after pull ups. Your guitar should then stay in good tuning after both conventional pitch bends and pull ups on the tremolo arm. If you perform a dive bomb then the tuning will be off after releasing the dive bomb, but you can pull up on the tremolo arm (silently if you like) and the guitar will, as if by magic, go back in tune. The second half of the video (from around 5:34) shows “training your trem using dive bombs” which is required if you deck your trem (i.e. have your tremolo claw screws tightened so that the bridge stays flush against the body unless you press down the tremolo arm). This is achieved by performing a dive bomb on the tremolo arm and tuning up repeatedly until the tuning is stable after dive bombs. Now the guitar is ready to play and will stay in tune after dive bombs. If you are “training your trem using dive bombs” it is possible that you may find that guitar goes out of tune after conventional pitch bends or any upward moves of the bar. In this case you can press the tremolo arm down (silently if you like) to reset the tuning. The “training your trem using dive bombs” process should then give stable results.
