Kenneth Chan's video: Do university rankings matter The Problem with University Rankings

@Do university rankings matter? | The Problem with University Rankings
University rankings... What do you think about them? I had a look into the methodologies and it turns out that these rankings put a lot of weight into research and citations with little emphasis on what most prospective students and their parents would probably be more interested in - Quality of Education. Even in ranking systems that look at quality of education, a proxy such as faculty to student ratio is used, making it very one-dimensional. While it can be argued that having research active academics means that students will be taught by academics at the forefront of cutting edge research, most universities have different tracks for researchers and academics. Academics in some Singapore universities have also lamented that those on the research track have better job prospects. And let's be honest, how many superstar researchers also take on a full teaching load? So should we just ignore rankings and publicly call them out? It's easy to denounce these rankings when your university is not highly ranked. But what if you're the Number 1 university in Asia? Then it becomes too valuable of a USP to ignore.
