Kenton Park's video: Proverbs 1:1-7 Why The Book Matters

This video kick starts a video series where I go through the entire book of Proverbs. Sometimes I'll cover entire chapters, sometimes just individual sections. In this video I cover Proverbs 1:1-7. This is the exposition of the entire book, laid out very theatrically by King Solomon, son of David. I'm convinced that exposure to the book of Proverbs can correct many of our culture's moral decline as of late. It is filled with many moral absolutes that leave no room for arguing. Within these moral absolutes are many verses that teach us how to deal with other people in our community and society. That is why I'm taking it upon myself to produce this video series addressing the wisdom in Proverbs. Proverbs like 11:1 "A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is His delight" tells us God despises financial scams. Proverbs 11:11 "By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down" warns us of the dangers of degrading speech. Proverbs 10:4 "Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich" encourages us to do our work heartily and not slack. Proverbs 3:27 "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do so" tells us to love and take care of one another. Proverbs 6:32 "The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; he who would destroy himself does it" warns against taking sex outside of marriage. In so many areas this book gives wisdom and moral guidance that if applied to one's life will make them live more righteously in God's eyes. The result: a society that doesn't cheat (because of Proverbs 11:1), slander/gossip (because of 11:11), works diligently (because of 10:4), has compassion on each other (because of 3:27), and our fellows' marriages (because of 6:32).
