@Saurashtra vs Bengal, Final - Ranji Trophy 2019-20: Day 3 | Bengal 134/3
Ranji Trophy 2019-20- Saurashtra vs Bengal, Final : Day 3 | Bengal 134/3 Brief scores: Bengal 134/3 (Sudip Chatterjee 47*; Prerak Mankad 1-16) trail Saurashtra 425 (Arpit Vasavada 106, Cheteshwar Pujara 66; Akash Deep 4-98) by 291 runs Saurashtra as they continue to hold all the aces against Bengal at stumps on day three of the Ranji Trophy final in Rajkot. Resuming at 384 for 8, the home team added 41 runs to their overnight score and frustrated Bengal's bowlers with a gritty 38-run stand for the last wicket while at it. Akash Deep, the pick of the Bengal bowlers, cleaned up Chirag Jani with his third ball of the day to claim a well-deserved four-fer, only his second in first-class cricket. The wicket of Jani not only brought joy in the faces of the Bengal camp, but it also sent some worrying signs among a few as the ball skidded low and slow to dismantle the leg peg accentuating the abrasive nature of the surface. On expected lines, there wasn't too much assistance for the new ball pair of Jaydev Unadkat and Chetan Sakariya who explored various angles to dislodge a sedate-looking opening partnership of Sudip Kumar Gharami and Abhimanyu Easwaran. And with just over five minutes to go before lunch, Saurashtra's ever-reliable Dharmendrasinh Jadeja removed the former in his third over and soon after, Prerak Mankad accounted for the wicket of Easwaran - who is yet to notch up a ton in this Ranji season - helping the hosts knock two crucial wickets in the space of seven deliveries. The home team then tried and tested various bowling combinations post-lunch, only to end up on the bitter side of luck. Jadeja, in particular, bowled nagging lines to create half-chances but the surface did not show any wear and tear for him to exert ample pressure on the batters. Both Manoj Tiwary and Sudip Chatterjee displayed great willingness to play the ball close to the body and therefore, helped the visitors recover after a disastrous end to the first session. Tiwary dragged one-off Jani on 18, but the excitement did not last long for the home team as soon as they saw the replays on the big screen where Jani overstepped, causing a sense of disappointment to Karsan Ghavri, the Saurashtra head coach who walked away in frustration. Tiwary, however, ran out of luck in the final session as Jani claimed redemption by pinning him lbw on 35, bringing an end to a stubborn 89-run third-wicket stand. The dominant partner, Chatterjee, too seemed to be a victim of 'at-the-brink-of-a-break' before stumps only to be saved by DRS after the onfield umpire ruled him out lbw for 47.
