@India vs England: ICC World Cup 2019 | Full Match Analysis, 30th June 2019
England vs India: ICC World Cup 2019 | Full Match Analysis Avinash Singh | Tirhankar Sarkar IThe men in blue will turn orange on Sunday as they eye pole position with a solid knockout punch on hosts England in Birmingham in what is being seen as a high-profile ICC Men Cricket World Cup 2019 encounter. With an unbeaten record in six encounters so far, Virat Kohli’s men are all but through to the semi-finals with 11 points but a win against England will further tighten their grip at the top and in the process oust World’s No 1 ODI team from the global event. The middle-order batting still remains a concern and Vijay Shankar’s performance at number four certainly makes him a weak link. The team management has shown no inclination to field the exciting Rishabh Pant so far. Meanwhile, England was ranked No. 1 at the start of the tournament and was the early title favorite. Eoin Morgan’s team is not out of contention if it loses to India, but its fate will no longer be in its hands, and its dreams of a one-day international cricket revolution potentially over. England can rely on playing its must-win game in front of the noisiest, most passionate, drum-banging, trumpet-blasting cricket fans in the land who will cheer every mistake by the opposition. India's so-called Bharat Army fans are expected to outnumber England's Barmy Army supporters in a Sunday sellout at the around 25,000-capacity Edgbaston in what will feel like a home game for India. India’s middle order worries in the ongoing World Cup have been hidden in plain sight so far. On flat tracks, the top 3 batsmen are the major contributors taking the pressure off those in the middle order. But India’s last two matches in the World Cup showed the middle order’s limitations. In the first three matches, India outclassed the opposition -South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan with a big score from one of the three batting stalwarts. Rohit Sharma slammed a hundred against South Africa and Pakistan, while Shikhar Dhawan smashed 117 against Australia. Kohli’s vital knocks of 82 (vs Pakistan), and 67 (vs Afghanistan) and 72 (vs WI) added to his team’s success. With Dhawan getting sidelined due to injury the pressure is now on Sharma and Kohli. So far they have both responded to the challenge, accumulating 380 runs and 316 runs respectively, and are among the top scorers. When Sharma or Kohli bat through middle-overs, India tend to score more in the death overs. The Indian team maintained a run rate of 7.50 and 11.60 and 8.80 in the last 10 overs in the first three games but then struggled against Afghanistan (4.90) and West Indies (5.10).
