@Vidarbha vs Saurashtra, Final Day 4 - Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Highlights | Saurashtra 58/5
Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Vidarbha vs Saurashtra highlights: DAY 4 | Saurashtra 58/5 Brief scores: Vidarbha 312 & 200 (Aditya Sarwate 49, Mohit Kale 38; Dharmendrasinh Jadeja 6-96) lead Saurashtra 307 & 58/5 (Vishvaraj Jadeja 23*; Aditya Sarwate 3-13) by 148 runs After setting a target of 206 runs for Saurashtra, Vidarbha have reduced them to 58/5 and taken a firm grip in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy final . Faiz Fazal’s side are firmly in the driver’s seat and will be a good bet to register back-to-back Ranji Trophy titles when the match resumes on the final day. the title clash of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season had swung one way, then the other and now waited eagerly for the next tug. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja seemed set to be that enforcer for Saurashtra with his 6 for 96, before Aditya Sarwate took it upon himself to answer the fan's pleas with an all-round show that decisively put Vidarbha on the cusp of back-to-back title triumphs. Thirteen wickets fell on the day with left-arm spinners - Jadeja and Sarwate - accounting for seven of that lot. Sarwate may have been numerically bested 3-4 on the day by his Saurashtra counterpart, but the 29-year-old hometowner dealt perhaps the most potent blow of the day, the match, and by extension, the Championship. A little after 3.30 PM, Sarwate got a delivery to pitch in line with the middle and leg stumps and deceived Cheteshwar Pujara into playing for the turn. Instead natural variation of the pitch took precedence and the ball went on straight to evade the inside edge and ping the batsman's pads. Pujara was dissmised for a five-ball duck in Saurashtra's chase of 206 and the expression on Jaydev Unadkat's face accurately reflected the collective sombre mood that had descended in the visiting dressing room at the VCA Stadium. Saurashtra had slipped to 22 for 3, losing each of their wickets to Sarwate's guile. They would lose two more, to Umesh Yadav and Akshay Wakhare, and finish the day at 58/5 with even the idea of a victory (148 away) seeming about as far as Rajkot is from Nagpur's Jamtha stadium. Sarwate's triple strike, and the understandably joyous celebrations that accompanied each of them, may have been exhilarating in isolation, but in reality it was quite simply a continuation of his single-handed defiance of Saurashtra. Vidarbha, who began the day at 55/2 with an overall lead of 60, found themselves at 73/5 in almost no time as Dharmendrasinh removed Wasim Jaffer and Ganesh Sathish before Unadkat cleaned up Akshay Wadkar. Mohit Kale (38) and Akshay Karnewar added 32 crucial runs before passing the baton on to Sarwate. And then arrived Sarwate. A first-inning five-fer behind, Sarwate set about keeping alive the trend of tail-wagging in the game. He added 66 with the final three partnerships of the innings, before he was the last man dismissed for 49 - the best of the innings. His resistance with the bat had given the hosts more than 200 to defend on a turning track, robbing the spotlight from Dharmendrasinh's six-fer. Then once the chase began, Harvik Desai was bowled, first-inning centurion Snell Patel chipped a catch back before the big Pujara moment. By Stumps the dismissals of Aarpit Vasavada and Sheldon Jackson had opened the doors of the game wide enough for Vidarbha to plonk one feet across.
