The best Indian Women badminton player and the 2nd Indian to achieve no.1 position in the world badminton ranking, Saina Nehwal was born on 17th March 1990. Today she is the only Indian to win a medal in the Olympics for India. She belongs to a Jat family and is the daughter of Mr. Harvir Singh and Usha Rani. She studied at the campus school CCS HAU, Hisar where her father worked. She later moved to Hyderabad with her family. Her earlier interest was in karate and she also achieved brown belt in the sport. She was a very bright student. Her family never faced any types of complaints regarding her from the school. She was also a good athlete and used to win several sports competitions. Later on she just started focusing on her badminton career. At the beginning of her career she lost matches. Then the girl created history and became the under-19 national champion by lifting the trophy of Asian Satellite Badminton Tournament twice. From then Saina started winning matches and stunned many top players of the world. Saina became famous all around the globe when she won the Philippines Open, 2nd Indian to do so. In the tournament she stunned the then world no.4 Xu Huaiwen. She also became the first Indian to win World Junior Championship in the year 2008. In the year 2010 she won gold medal in the Commonwealth games by defeating Wong Mew Choo of Malaysia, held in New Delhi. In 2012 after winning Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold Title she lifted Indonesian Open Super Series trophy for the third time in her career. And then she achieved something that no other Indian player ever achieved. It was an Olympic medal. On 4th August 2012, she won Bronze medal in the London Olympics defeating the star player of China, Wang Xin. She retired from the match due to an injury. After that in the year 2015 she became the first Indian to win Indian Open in BWF Super Series and because of which she became the world no.1 badminton player as per the rankings released by the World Badminton Federation on 2nd April, 2015. The whole country was delighted. She received wishes from the Prime Minister and President as well who congratulated her for achieving such a great success. She dedicates her achievement to all the Badminton coaches in India who support this beautiful game Today she is the role model of many young Indian talents and many badminton fans. She runs her own Badminton Academies in India.
