Moving back to the states has been a challenge in more than one way. In Germany I had the luxury of knowing a lot of my farmers and connecting myself to my food. Here in Nevada, in the middle of the desert, this has proven to be a challenge. My first goal before even moving here was to find farmers I could trust and support them in what they do for us. It's taken hours of online research and this is the first company I've decided to try. Porter Road has a variety of animal products as well as all of our favorite cuts, including bacon and breakfast sausage. Their website includes lots of information on how each breed is raised, what they're fed, who their farmers are, etc. Yes, you will be spending more on products such as these BUT you're supporting farmers who raise animals they way nature intended. These animals live healthy lives out in pastures, eating grass and bugs, sitting in sunshine, free to run, as opposed to our mass CAFO operations where animals never see sunshine, live in overcrowded feed lots, and are overfed grain, corn, and other BS. We must vote with our dollars and support what we want to see in the world. Eatwild.com is a great resource to help you find local farmers. I plan to try out more companies so if you have any you love, end them my way! I will also do a more in depth video on how to choose your farmer and the questions you might want to ask, to ensure you're not being scammed by fancy wording on labels.
