Can you make a grilled cheese sandwich in a saucepan instead of a skillet? Yes, you can. The food doesn't know how high the sides of the pan is; it responds to the heat that it is in direct contact with at the bottom of the pan and somewhat to the heat around it. The higher sides of the saucepan make manipulating the bread and the sandwich slightly tricky but a fork works better than a flipper or turner does here. Make yourself or someone you love a grilled cheese sandwich. Serve with a nice bowl of tomato soup. Great comfort food, especially when it is cold outside.
