@Your Neighborhood with Kimo Quance (EPISODE 5: Carlton Hills & Carlton Oaks)
Throughout the later parts of the nineteenth century, various areas within and surrounding Santee were purchased mainly by families. With the exception of the federal government acquiring some acreage during World War II, it was not actually until 1958 when a major developer firm planned to further urbanize the Santee area. Bill Mast, who at the time was president of the Carlton Company, transformed 4,300 acres into many parts of Santee that will still see today. Developments produced by the renamed Santee-Carlton Company are also credited for the city’s exponential growth from a measly population of just 2,000 in 1950, into just over 25,000 by the year 1970. Within those twenty years, Bill Mast had made some major contributions to the early development of Santee. With the help of others, they were able to develop one of the earliest plans to recycle reclaimed water with the creation of the Padre Dam Municipal Water District which we covered in the last episode of “Your Neighborhood.” CARLTON OAKS COUNTRY CLUB With some clever engineering, he was able to steer some of this water to develop his own custom golf course in 1958. Although the course has seen some redesign, the country club has hosted highly recognized events from the 1974 NCAA National Championship to qualifiers of the U.S. Open. The country club is recently remodeled, and great for hosting events in the club, playing a full 18, or hitting dingerz on the driving range with some of your closest friends. BILL MAST/MAST BLVD. Whether you take Mast Boulevard to drop the kids at school, run some errands, or head to the newly renovated Mast Park, it connects residents to almost any everyday need. Mast Boulevard, named after the president himself, still functions as a main street for almost every commute for a Santee resident. Mast is also a pathway to bring you to the wonderful neighborhood of Carlton Hills. HOMES/NEIGHBORHOOD The Santee-Carlton Company developed condos, townhouses, lofts, and single family homes from 1959-1990. With housing diversity of 2-5 bedrooms, 1-4 bathrooms, some can sit on lot sizes up to 3 acres. Carlton Hills is great for anyone’s living situation. With the Carlton Hills neighborhood starting just north of Mast Boulevard, residents have a view of the hills that make up Mission Trails, Cowles Mountain, and its neighboring southern cities too. The neighborhood layouts make it easy and inviting for all to walk and bike through, and plenty of pavement for kids to play. Another plus is that nearby you have over a half dozen elementaries of the Santee School District and two highschools just a walk or quick drop-off away. SCHOOLS To the north of the boulevard, you have K-6 Sycamore Canyon, to the south you have K-8’s Carlton Hills and Carlton Oaks, and to the east of off Cuyamaca you have the K-8 Rio Sieco. The unique geography of Mast Boulevard actually connects rivals high schools West Hills and Santana. The Sultans and Wolfpack are home to one of the best local rivalries, so don’t hesitate to take a seat in the bleachers to watch some of the best student athletes in San Diego who face in the Mayor’s Cup. LOCAL BUSINESSES Lastly, Carlton Hills has an array of amenities and locally owned and run businesses. Located in the Carlton Oaks Plaza, you can find a good read at the Santee Library or Friendly Used Book store. Want a coffee? Hit the Kaffee Meister before you start your day. You can also grab breakfast, lunch, or bring home a dessert from Janet’s Cafe and Deli. Or even visit Drs. Michael and Devani Brown for your annual teeth cleaning and check-up, they keep the pearly whites lookin good year round. CONCLUSION Carlton Hills offers a great landscape of opportunity. With wonderful views, schools, neighborhoods, and so much more, Carlton Hills is the place for you. 😁Kimo Quance | The Kimo Quance Group | Realtor 🏘Keller Williams Realty San Diego, CA 💻https://www.greatersandiegohomesforsale.com/ ☎️619.324.5397 📺As Seen On HGTV's House Hunters (3X) ⚓️CG Veteran | Amazon Best Selling Author ✉️Kimo@TheQuanceGroup.com Instagram 📸@kimo_quance_619_324_5397 Linkedin 🖥https://www.linkedin.com/in/kimoquancerealestate/ Twitter 🐦@YourHouseGuy Buy my Book 📙https://amzn.to/2XXJ7s7 DRE
