why don't I buy used cars from dealers, Ill tell you why! growing up I was always taught that the only thing to purchase from a dealer is a new car and that is it! used cars from dealers have a terrible rep and ill explain why. one thing you need to keep in mind is that the dealer always purchases the car from a person at a super low rate, then they turn it around to make a profit at 3 to 4 times the price that they bought it from. I get it and I completely understand it is a business. but one thing that I don't like that dealers do is they end up trying to sell these warranties that will never ever help you when you need them. its situations like this that give dealers and mechanics bad reps. a while ago my father and i purchased a chevy colorado. the vehicle was sold as is and we forgot to bring the scanner. we took it for a test drive and it was good, body was clean and motor sounded good. it was a 5 cylinder engine. now after purchasing this vehicle, we ended up driving home which was two hours away when this dreaded check engine light came on! after arriving home i scanned the truck to find that it was a misfire. we tried swapping coils and plugs but it was still misfiring from cylinder two. after that we ended up putting a compression test on the truck and found low compression in cylinder two. we called the dealer and they didn't want the truck back. after treating to sue due to the fact that they couldn't sell a vehicle that doesn't pass emissions. they took the truck back and gave us a newer one for a really good deal. later we traded that in for a tacoma.
