First Principles Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11 (MSG) 1-2 The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors and set them above the crowd. Hebrews 11 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Romans 10 9-11 If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, & with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says (Psalm 25:3), “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” God’s Covenant Justice of Faith Romans 4 (KNT) 13 The promise didn't come to Abraham or to his family through the law – the promise came through the covenant justice of faith. 16-17 It is 'by faith’ so that it can be in accordance with grace and so that the promise can be validated for the entire family - not simply those who are from the law, but those who share the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all, just as the Bible says, 'I have made you the father of many nations.’ This happened in the presence of the God in whom he believed, the God who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that do not exist. Gratitude Strengthens Faith Psalm 124 (MSG) 1-5 If God hadn’t been for us—Israel, sing out! If God hadn’t been for us when everyone went against us, we would have been swallowed alive by their violent anger, swept away by the flood of rage… we would have lost our lives in the wild, raging water. 6 Blessed be God! He didn’t go off and leave us. He didn’t abandon us defenseless, helpless as a rabbit in a pack of snarling dogs. 7 We’ve flown free from their fangs, free of their traps, free as a bird. Their grip is broken; we’re free as a bird in flight. 8 God’s strong name is our help, the same God who made heaven and earth.
