LINER NOTES: "MOSAIC" came about when Ms. Braun was searching for a piece of music to perform with cello and piano. Uncovering Maestro Previn’s “Four Songs” and “Vocalise”, she immediately fell in love with the music as well as with famed author Toni Morrison’s evocative poetic lyrics. Ms. Braun had recently met cellist Kirk Starkey, whom she had serendipitously learned was in possession of her Stepfather Guttorn Otto’s 1775 Bohemian cello, and he agreed to collaborate with her on the project to record these works. The cello has a rich, mellifluous sound and is perfect in the recording studio. Enter Dr. Linda Ippolito, a fabulous pianist (and Lawyer) who was also up to the challenge. Dr. Ippolito is also Ms. Braun’s cousin-in-law. These connections made the music-making very special indeed! "MOSAIC" was named for the inspiration that came when Braun first heard this rarely recorded music, while she sat on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea at the Southernmost tip of Greece, known as Cape Tenaro. It was there that she was moved by the haunting melody of the Vocalise, with the skies, warm winds, and ancient tiled mosaics that can be found in the area. A year later, she returned to Cape Tenaro to film the video to align with the Vocalise. Watch for the CD "MOSAIC" to be released December 6, 2019 on the Centaur Label!
