That is the mindset we need to have to be successful, as a motivational speaker I truly believe it is all about mindset. So after hearing that quote so many times, I finally got it is NOT the mountains we conquer but ourselves, what does it mean to conquer ourselves? to do our inner work? For me climbing up that mountain at Huayna Picchu it was like being in a little petri dish, that showed me what I believe we go through daily. I have climbed 2 physical mountains in my life but I have climbing thousands of personal mini mountains, ever day, every week, every month, every year…and so have you. We all have those moments where everything can feel like a mini mountain. And for me ‘it’s not the mountains we conquer but ourselves’ is understanding that there are 2 mountains that we climb an external and internal with all of these moments of choice and opportunity. Where we can choose to keep going, to keep climbing or to go back down and give up on our dreams. The external climb up a mountain is one journey and through skills, tools, sheer physical force we can push ourselves up that mountain. But there is another journey that is going on, the internal one (mindset) and that is the one I want to focus on. For me this inner work is the most important work. The inner work comes up in those moments where we might allow our fear brain, overwhelm or mindset to take over and conquer our dreams. That inner journey is what I call ‘doing the work’ it’s about YOU choosing in all of those moments to sit in the discomfort and ‘do the work’. To not avoid, numb, step back, retreat, give up, to not choose to step away from a dream.
